What does non-custodial mean?
It describes who controls the keys used to authorize transactions.
The short version
With a non-custodial wallet, you control those keys rather than a custodian holding them on your behalf. Fornix is a non-custodial wallet. Control also brings responsibility for protecting access and understanding the wallet’s recovery method.
A closer look
Every wallet is built around keys: secret information that proves you are allowed to move the assets at an address. Custody is simply the question of who holds those keys.
In a custodial service, a company holds the keys for you, much as a bank holds your money. In a non-custodial wallet, you hold them yourself, usually protected by a recovery phrase that can restore your wallet if you lose your device.
That control comes with responsibility. Keep your recovery phrase offline, never share it, and remember that nobody can reset it for you. Anyone who has the phrase can move the assets.
Worth remembering
The word describes a custody model. It is not a guarantee against scams, lost access or mistakes.
